Director of Conservation and Outdoor Education
The Southern Conservation Trust seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative, outdoor professional who has a leadership background as well as the passion for the outdoors to manage SCT’s public properties, outdoor education and recreation initiatives, the acquisition of a portfolio of new conservation easements and the stewardship of those already in SCT’s portfolio. The Director of Conservation and Outdoor Education will work hand in hand with SCT’s Executive Director and will lead and facilitate a set portfolio of these conservation easement projects from inception to closing; and oversee their perpetual stewardship by SCT. This position will oversee SCT’s outdoor education and recreation initiatives on six public nature areas in Fayette County, GA.
Specific tasks include working with the Executive Director to build land management plans on existing easements as well as SCT’s 6 public nature areas, conservation easement and fee title negotiation and acquisition; and providing overall land management consistent with SCT’s policies and our commitment to the highest land standards. This position offers a tremendous career opportunity for an energetic and accomplished conservation professional to lead the next generation of the Southern Conservation Trust’s education initiatives.

Current Internship Openings:
Volunteer Conservation Research Internship (Multiple Available)
Organization: The Southern Conservation Trust protects greenspace, conserves forests, safeguards rivers, shelters wildlife, provides environmental education, and ensures that everyone has access to nature in our own communities throughout Georgia.
Location: Projects may be located at any of the Southern Conservation Trust’s public nature areas in Fayette County, Georgia. The Ridge Nature Area, Line Creek Nature Area, Morgan Grove Nature Area, Nesmith Preserve, and Sam’s Lake Bird Sanctuary.
Projects: Projects will vary based on the individual but can be focused on turtle research, connecting nature in the City, land acquisition, public events, invasive species, water quality, trail maintenance, educational programming, and communications.
Responsibilities: Research Interns are considered part of the SCT Team and will work with multiple SCT Staff to complete their projects, as well as specific board members as necessary. Research Intern will track their own time and projects associated and submitted to their assigned coordinator.
Requirements: Fluent in English, interest in biology, outdoor education, and or conservation, be willing to commit 2.5 months to a projects, hardworking, communicative, and enthusiastic, capable of work outdoors in adverse climatic conditions, and good written communication skills.
