Lydia is a smart, funny, kind, energetic 10 year old whirlwind of a little girl. She loves the outdoors, drawing, books, her friends, her family and, especially, her little brother. We love having her around as she is always willing to help out at our events and she brings a smile to everyone’s face with her humor. Lydia was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the beginning of July and less than a week later she had surgery to get it removed. Unfortunately, due to its location, the whole tumor was unable to be removed. At this time, they also discovered that the tumor was cancerous. Lydia named her tumor Billy and #BeatBilly and #BlasttheBlastoma were born.
Before being officially diagnosed, Lydia was still able to rock at everything she does, even if some things were a little harder. She ran the 5K at her school, Fayetteville Elementary, and came in her first place in her age group!!! We now invite you to participate in our Are YOU Faster Than a Superhero 5K and challenge you to beat Lydia’s first place time!. If she can do it with a brain tumor, so can you!
So come and support the Kilburg family and prove that you can be as fast as a superhero! Dress up in your favorite superhero costume, bring your dog, and come have a blast as we all work together to BLAST THE BLASTOMA
Want to run with friends or coworkers? Register as a group to receive a discount if running with more than 10 individuals. Unable to make it in person but still want to show your support? Register as a virtual runner!
Sponsorships are also available! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for information and with any questions.
All proceeds from the race will go towards Lydia’s family. Brain tumors are expensive and we are working to alleviate some of the financial stress so that her parents can solely focus on helping Lydia through treatment.
Lydia is the daughter of our Director of Conservation and Outdoor Education, Nick Kilburg. We absolutely love having Lydia as part of our SCT family because she always wants to help and brings a smile to everyone’s face (or a scream of terror. Lydia is best known for haunting the woods during our Halloween event).
Lydia has also helped us with education programs, summer camps, and other events. Last year, she helped us decorate for our Annual Benefit and she dressed up as an elf for our Santa at Sams event.
She and the entire Kilburg family have done so much for the Southern Conservation Trust and now it is our turn to give back to them. Help us by making a donation or registering for our superhero event and together, we can all #BeatBilly!
Help us #BeatBilly by becoming a sponsor today! Your donation helps alleviate financial stress for the Kilburg family so that their main focus can be on Lydia and her upcoming treatments.
You can find the sponsorship packet here.
